The Spring Racing Carnival is a huge event in Melbourne, and the lead up can sometimes be even bigger than the actual race day! So what do we need to do to prepare for a day at the races? Read on to find out how to make sure you are super organised and Spring Racing Ready!
3+ MONTHS PRIOR
When it comes to our skin, it’s important to start correcting any issue or any problem areas you may have well in advance. Our skin needs time to adjust to new products and treatments, and in some cases can get worse before it gets better. So to avoid any unwanted breakouts before the big event, get started on a skincare routine early!
1 MONTH PRIOR
All of your appointments should now have been made! So double check you’ve booked in for your nails, hair, makeup etc so you don’t miss out! You should also have the major components of your outfit sorted by now. The dress and fascinator should be hanging nicely in your wardrobe.
1 WEEK PRIOR
Time to get all the finishing touches sorted for your outfit. Jewellery, bag, shoes… This is also a good time to start thinking about what direction you’d like to go with your hair, makeup, and nail colour. Later on in the week is when all nail services should be done. If you really want to make sure they last, we suggest going for shellac so there is no chance of chipping or ruining your nails before race day!
We also recommend treating yourself to our ‘Red Carpet Event’ Facial, the O2 Lift! Having this a few days before the races will leave you with glowing, plump and hydrated skin! (Read more about this facial here)
1-2 DAYS BEFORE
A spray tan is definitely a MUST HAVE for the Spring Racing Carnival. Our friends over at Tan and Beauty Lounge in Kew are the best in the biz for spray tans. Janet has been spraying the local community as well as local and international celebs for over 10 years! She really knows how to mix a tan and choose the best formula for your skin. You’ll need to book in with her WELL in advance for Spring Carnival though, as she fills up very quickly! Contact her on 0405 404 141 or via her Facebook or Instagram Pages to make a booking.
Before you get a spray tan though, it’s super important to buff and polish your limbs (and give your face a light exfoliation also) so that the tan develops evenly and leaves you with a gorgeous, even glow. We also recommend taking one of our IMAGE Skincare Biomolecular Sheet Masks home and popping it on the night before to ensure your skin is super hydrated and dewy before your Makeup Application. We like to pop ours on while we have a hair mask on for 20-30 minutes (washing your hair the night before having a do done by the pro’s is also a must!)
THE DAY OF
After some much needed beauty sleep, it’s time to get this show on the road! Make sure you start off with a decent breakfast – you have a big day ahead! And coffee, of course! (champers can come later 😉 ) Have a quick shower (wash off that spray tan if you still have the bronzer on), cleanse and hydrate your face and your body, then it’s time for hair and makeup!
When you arrive at your hair and makeup appointments, make sure you are wearing comfy clothes, and a top and/or jumper that doesn’t need to be taken off over your head! A loose t-shirt and a zip up jumper are our items of choice. It’s also a great idea to bring pictures of your dress, shoes, bag, fascinator, jewellery and anything else you are wearing on the day so that your look can be tailored to your outfit. If you have any ‘inspo’ pics, bring them along as well.
Time now to go home, get dressed and have a glass of bubbles! Make sure you pack plenty of bandaids (we also like to pop Vaseline on any areas of the feet that may rub against our shoes to prevent blisters) some blotting papers, your lippy and maybe a powder for any touch ups needed throughout the day.
Feeling a little overwhelmed!? Don’t stress, we’ve got you lovely! Give us a call or contact us here and we will be happy to assist you in planning and booking any appointments needed to help you get ready for the Spring Racing Carnival!
